Michelle L. Barker is a member in the Charleston office of Pullin, Fowler, Flanagan, Brown & Poe, as of March 2024. Michelle’s practice includes defense litigation, representing insurers, governmental entities, corporations, and individuals in a wide variety of civil litigation, including insurance defense, personal injury defense, state and municipal liability, educational liability, contractor liability, and employment and professional liability. Michelle is also a certified mediator in the state courts of West Virginia.
Michelle graduated with honors in 1997 from West Virginia University, earning a double major: a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Foreign Language, specializing in Spanish, along with a minor in Dance. In 2000, she earned her juris doctorate degree from the West Virginia University College of Law. During her studies at the law school, Michelle competed in both Moot Trial Association and Moot Court Oral Advocacy Board on the national levels, earning her the Order of the Barristers distinction upon graduation.
Prior to her current work with PFFB&P, she began her legal career as a law clerk in both the 13th and the 17th judicial circuits, where she gained extensive experience in both motion and trial practices. After completing her clerkships, Michelle represented defendants in medical malpractice and products liability cases as an associate with Flaherty, Sensabaugh & Bonasso, PLLC. In 2004, Michelle was invited to clerk for the Honorable Robin J. Davis, Justice, on the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. Gaining extensive appellate experience, Michelle authored opinions on behalf of Justice Davis for almost twelve years. Thereafter, Michelle joined Stewart Bell, PLLC, where she practiced in the areas of care and safety of nursing home clients. Michelle then opened her own practice, Barker Law Offices, L.C., where she assisted people with wills, estate planning, and a myriad of other legal issues.
In addition to her legal career, Michelle is an avid volunteer in the community. She previously served as President of the Junior League of Charleston, West Virginia, where she also earned the “Active of the Year” award and national recognition for AJLI. She also volunteered as a past Board President/Chair and volunteer for the local March of Dimes chapter, working to make sure all babies are born healthy. Michelle received the “Volunteer of the Year” award and her family served as the local ambassador family. Currently, she lives with her husband, two children, and four pets in the Elkview area, and her family is active in their local church.
