Melissa Stacy was born in Flint, Michigan in March 1969. She grew up in Wytheville, Virginia and graduated, with honors from George Wythe High School. Melissa studied History at Concord College, graduated summa cum laude in 1997 and received the Outstanding Senior in History award. While attending the WVU College of Law, Melissa participated in the Lugar Trial Association and Public Interest Advocates. During law school, Melissa clerked for two years with Legal Aid of West Virginia. She received her J.D. degree in 2000. Upon graduation from law school, Melissa accepted a judicial clerkship, serving for a year as a law clerk for the Honorable John Hutchison, the Honorable Robert Burnside and the Honorable H.L. Kirkpatrick in Raleigh County, West Virginia. Following her clerkship, Melissa worked for a short time in the Fayette County Prosecutor's office and then joined Pullin, Fowler & Flanagan's Beckley office as an associate. In 2003, Melissa moved to Morgantown, West Virginia to assist in opening a new office for the firm. Along with two other attorneys, Melissa worked to establish new client relationships in the northern part of the state, handling cases for the Morgantown Utility Board, West Virginia University, WBOY Television, the West Virginia Division of Corrections, and many others. The Morgantown office quickly grew from three attorneys and one support staff to seven attorneys and four support staff. Melissa became a member of the firm in April, 2006. In the fall of 2006, Melissa made the difficult decision to take a break from litigation and to devote more time to her family and public interest work. From 2006 until 2010, Melissa worked as the Program Attorney for the Medley/Hartley Advocacy Program, a non-profit organization committed to the cause of community integration of adults with developmental disabilities. There, along with energetic support staff, Melissa assisted a talented group of state-wide advocates and a devoted Program Administrator to ensure that this often overlooked population has a voice in areas of personal and legal rights, housing, financial security, and full community participation. In May 2010, Melissa rejoined the firm as a member in its Morgantown office and has reestablished her practice in the areas of auto accident defense; employment discrimination defense; defense of state agencies, municipalities and political subdivisions; and general personal injury defense. Melissa has been married since 2002 to her husband, Jim Stacy, also an attorney. She has a 5 year old daughter, Leah and 2 year-old twin boys, Owen and Evan. Melissa lives with her family in Morgantown, and is a passionate WVU Mountaineer football and basketball fan.
